Smalls signed letter-of-intent with SCF

As reported earlier this week, Southeast star and Bradenton Herald Basketball Player of the Year Reggie Smalls has signed a letter of intent with State College of Florida.

It was erroneously reported in a publication that Smalls had not made an "official decision." Not sure what that means, but Southeast head basketball coach Elliot Washington said that signing a LOI intent is as "official" as you can get.

Now, that doesn't mean a player can't change his mind, particularly at the junior college level where the rules are a lot more relaxed.

According to NCAA regulations, signing afterwards with a four year school nullifies a JUCO letter of intent and the player does not have to sit out a year. Also, nothing prevents a high school player from attending a prep school even if signs with a four year school.

"Things could change, but right now Reggie is 'officially committed' to SCF. I saw him sign the letter of intent" Washington said.
