Can Brissett duplicate Charlie Ward

Jacoby Brissett might be creating problems for Florida head football coach Will Muschamp and Billy Donovan, who runs the Gators hoops program.

But both have to admit it’s a nice dilemma.

The quarterback, who surprised a lot people when he signed to play football for the Florida, had a weekend on the hardwood that would rival any kid’s fondest dreams___And basketball is his second sport.

Brissett scored 30 points and had five rebounds in leading Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer over two time defending champion Findlay Prep (Nevada) in the ESPN Rise National High School Invitational last week and then scored 16 points and pulled in five boards in a 76-73 loss to Oak Hill Academy (Virginia).

The 6-5, 225 pound Brissett figures to be in a heated battle for the future quarterback job (most likely in 2012) with heralded freshman Jeff Driskel, who enrolled early this winter. If incumbent senior John Brantley loses the job then it’s a wide open battle this year and Brissett figures to be at a disadvantage coming in late though to his credit he has been up to Florida and met with coaches to get familiar with the playbook.

However, nothing seems to frighten Brissett, who said after the national tournament that he still plans on playing two sports for Florida. Muschamp and Donovan say it’s his decision though the idea of playing quarterback and basketball is awfully tough though Charlie Ward did at FSU, won a Heisman Trophy and a decent NBA career.
